बारहखड़ी अभ्यास पुस्तिका is the step between learning the Hindi letters and reading Hindi words. It starts with the 12 matras (ा ि ी ु ू े ै ो ौ ं ः), their signs and names, then gives every consonant from क to ज्ञ its own barakhadi: क का कि की कु कू के कै को कौ कं कः.
Each letter has a read row, a dotted tracing row and a write-it-yourself row, two picture words (क for कमल, किताब) and four short words to read. The last pages bring it together with letter + matra sums, fill-the-matra picture words, barakhadi ladders, picture matching and simple sentences to read.
